HAIR TRENDS 2013

The Amazing World Of
OMBRE
By Maria Arias

2012 was a year filled with wild hair colors and the amazing world of Ombre.
Ombre is a French word that signifies “shaded or shadow.”
In hair color it describes the gradual change in color from dark roots to light ends.

The original Ombre debuted about 4 years ago. Cosmopolitan cities like Los Angeles and my beloved New York City Started this trend. Celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Jessica Biel and Chloe Kardashian became fans of this trend. It did not take long for the mainstream to take notice. Ombre was raw, blunt and it became the hottest trend ever requested at salons.

Ombre is still hotter than ever, thanks to this year’s makeover. Instead of the extreme and overpowering Ombre we saw in 2012 and the years before, expect 2013 to bring a more subtle and sophisticated form of Ombre.

Subtle Ombre is here to stay. It’s sexy, sensual, versatile, and easy to maintain. Sarah Jessica Parker (who’s been wearing subtle Ombre for years) Gisele Bundchen, Jessica Biel and Sandra Bullock are just a few of the celebrities who are showing off this trend.

2013 Hairstyles
Like hair color trends, hair styles also change with the seasons. This year, we’ll see chic knots & buns, wavy hair, braids and hair accessories. Check These out for inspiration!

Home Hair Coloring: Tips on How to Reduce Your Anxiety and Increase Your Confidence

We take pride on being self-sufficient. In fact, as parents we encourage our children to be independent from a very early age. Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects are increasingly becoming  more and more like a staple for cautious spending. As a colorist, I do not condemn the use of store bought color. I believe people have needs and sometimes their resources cannot fully meet them. Another driving force to an increase in DIY home coloring, is today's economy and the Covid-19 Pandemic. Many men and women are finding very difficult to see their stylists on a regular basis, so they take the DIY challenge to save money and time. However, with any undertaken challenge comes a mixture of emotions. Going to a drug store to choose the perfect hair color shade can be a very daunting experience. The biggest obstacle for women (and men) is choosing the right shade. Manufacturers do a fantastic campaign job ( with high profile mo...

What It Means To Be A Master Hairdresser

“If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all” Michelangelo Instant mastery of hairdressing skills is something we all like to achieve as soon as we complete beauty school. Wait, not so fast! The reality is that the road ahead can be demanding and laborious. Becoming a master hairdresser requires humility, patience and hard work. Like any other field, hairdressing has its specialties (color and hairstyling) and sub specialties (keratin, texture hair, sessions, updo, etc.). It gives us ample choices to select an area to master. It's been tested and tried, no matter the field, that time and practice leads to expertise. No matter where you are, it takes at least two years of preparation to be a good hairdresser and six years and above to be great or achieve mastery. No matter how skillful you may think you are, the more you learn the greater you’ll be. Albert Einstein once said “Only one who devote...
