Protecting Your Hair Color Against the Summer Solar Rays

Protecting our skin against solar rays is something that may come naturally to us. Ultra violet rays type A and B does not only cause havoc to our skin, but also to our hair and scalp. These rays have the power to cause internal damage to the cuticle and scalp. This damage manifests in the form of brittleness, split ends, hair loss, breakage and loss of color pigmentation.

Color fade is a major concern for women who enjoy trips to the beach and sunbathing during the hot summer days, when ultra violet rays are the most strongest. Keep in mind that no matter the season, you still need protection from these rays.

To calculate how much protection you are getting with your SPF product, multiply it by the minutes it takes you to get burned.

For example: Let's say your skin burns in 15 minutes and you have a sunscreen with SPF 15, multiply these two numbers. The result (15x15= 225 minutes) shows how long you are protected. Now, the product you use will only protect the areas or sections you cover. Make sure you are generous and all your hair is saturated. All forms of hats are the #1 recommendation. They are great, but at times inconvenient. Another option to protect your hair and scalp from ultra violet rays is to wear sunscreen. There are many haircare brands that offer a sun haircare line. Here are some of my favorites:

Rene Furterer Waterproof Nutritive Oil KPF 90   LEAVE-IN (K=keratin)
Keeps tresses protected against the damaging effects of the sun. This rich leave-in blocks 90% of UV rays while preventing salt and chlorine deposits on hair.

Kerastase Aqua-Seal

Create the ultimate beachy look with this original sun protection oil formulated to protect color and combat the effects of powerful UV rays. Provides maximum sun protection with added moisturizing and softening benefits for ultimate sheen and shine.

Paul Mitchell Color Care

Home Hair Coloring: Tips on How to Reduce Your Anxiety and Increase Your Confidence

We take pride on being self-sufficient. In fact, as parents we encourage our children to be independent from a very early age. Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects are increasingly becoming  more and more like a staple for cautious spending. As a colorist, I do not condemn the use of store bought color. I believe people have needs and sometimes their resources cannot fully meet them. Another driving force to an increase in DIY home coloring, is today's economy and the Covid-19 Pandemic. Many men and women are finding very difficult to see their stylists on a regular basis, so they take the DIY challenge to save money and time. However, with any undertaken challenge comes a mixture of emotions. Going to a drug store to choose the perfect hair color shade can be a very daunting experience. The biggest obstacle for women (and men) is choosing the right shade. Manufacturers do a fantastic campaign job ( with high profile models and actresses) to allure consumers to believe that home

COLOR MELTING: THE HOTTEST NEW TREND!

COLOR MELTING is a new term describing a blend of color/tones. It's Ombre but more subtle, yet strikingly beautiful in my opinion.  I ABSOLUTELY love it!!! and my clients do too! It's the hottest trend right now. It's dimensional and has a natural flow. While it can be created with foils, my method of choice is Balayage.  This method gives color melting a more softer look. The best thing about Color Melting is its low maintenance. No need to be a the salon every 5-8 weeks. It can take months for a salon visit! So instead of  creating a hole in your pockets, it leaves extra to spend on shoes or things you like. To get this look visit Nolan Vincent Salon Tuesday-Saturday or call 954-616-8817  to make your color melting appointment!!! Here are example of people rocking it!!!
