Bad Hair Habits That Make Your Hair Sick And In Need of Rehabilitation!

Hair is a fabric and like so, it has specific needs.  Bad hair habits jeopardize the integrity of your hair and scalp. Take a moment and write down your daily hair routine and compare it to what I considered to be the ten deadly sins to healthy and shiny hair: 1.  NOT MOISTURIZING YOUR ENDS Your natural scalp oil is vital to maintain shiny healthy hair. These oils contain ceramides, lipids, and vitamin E; just to name a few. Long hair tend to suffer a lot because this nutritious oil does not reach the ends of the hair. As results, the ends may become fragile and more susceptible to splitting. Nourishing your ends with a serum such as Rene Furterer Karite Repairing Serum   or Rene Furterer Overnight Repair and cutting as little as ¼ of an inch every 6-8 weeks will aid in reducing dryness and split ends. 2.   USING LOW END SHAMPOOS FILLED WITH SULFATES, SODIUM CHLORIDE AND OTHER HARSH INGRIEDIENTS It's been documented that shampoos with sulfates and sodium chlor

What It Means To Be A Master Hairdresser

“If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all” Michelangelo Instant mastery of hairdressing skills is something we all like to achieve as soon as we complete beauty school. Wait, not so fast! The reality is that the road ahead can be demanding and laborious. Becoming a master hairdresser requires humility, patience and hard work. Like any other field, hairdressing has its specialties (color and hairstyling) and sub specialties (keratin, texture hair, sessions, updo, etc.). It gives us ample choices to select an area to master. It's been tested and tried, no matter the field, that time and practice leads to expertise. No matter where you are, it takes at least two years of preparation to be a good hairdresser and six years and above to be great or achieve mastery. No matter how skillful you may think you are, the more you learn the greater you’ll be. Albert Einstein once said “Only one who devotes himself to a

Age Defying and Weight Loss Treatments

Aging and weight loss are two battles that many of us fight till the end. We start changing our eating and fitness habits the moment we see the scale with a number we don't agree with. Aging is inevitable and most of us welcome it with open arms. However, that doesn't mean that we wouldn't try anything to delay and defy the aging process. With scientific research and new developments we are at an advantage. Women now a days take better care of themselves as compared to decades ago. Healthier eating, meditation, exercises and anti aging treatments all help to slow down aging. There are many treatments in the market to get rid of unwanted fat (belly, muffing tops, etc.), weight and wrinkles. I find the following two to be amazing. I haven't try them but their results are very promising and proven. To Freeze Away Fat: The FDA has cleared the use of  Cryolipolysis or Zeltiq CoolSculpting Treatment. Unlike other conventional treatments, Cryolipolysis freezes an

Keratin: Risky Choice or Blissful Experience

For years, legions of women around the world have battled with unwanted frizzy hair .  Living in humid areas only exacerbate the issue and that was exactly my concern when I decided to relocate from New York City to sunny Florida. I should've been concerned about moving related matters, but nothing demanded more thought than my naturally frizzy curly hair. Well, I guess luck was on my side!  2007, the year I moved to Florida, something revolutionary in the hair industry changed the way we smooth frizzy hair forever. This product was called the Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment, pioneered in Brazil and known there as Escova Progressiva. I immediately trained and became certified. The results were amazing. My frizz was gone and my hair was smooth and silky like never before. It was life changing, a wish come true! But great things also have their flaws. While Keratin is an amazing armor to win the war against frizz, there are concerns about one particular ingredient: Formaldehyd

Protecting Your Hair Color Against the Summer Solar Rays

Protecting our skin against solar rays is something that may come naturally to us. Ultra violet rays type A and B does not only cause havoc to our skin, but also to our hair and scalp. These rays have the power to cause internal damage to the cuticle and scalp. This damage manifests in the form of brittleness, split ends, hair loss, breakage and loss of color pigmentation. Color fade is a major concern for women who enjoy trips to the beach and sunbathing during the hot summer days, when ultra violet rays are the most strongest. Keep in mind that no matter the season, you still need protection from these rays. To calculate how much protection you are getting with your SPF product, multiply it by the minutes it takes you to get burned. For example: Let's say your skin burns in 15 minutes and you have a sunscreen with SPF 15, multiply these two numbers. The result (15x15= 225 minutes) shows how long you are protected. Now, the product you use will only protect the areas or secti

These iconic trends are reinterpreted to fit today's demanding needs for exciting and unique styles.  Here are the top haircuts that are in vogue this summer: The Mod Hair Cut: (aka 5 point cut, the Beatles cut and the mushroom cut) made its grand entrance in the 60's. This cut is perfect for anybody who is always on top of current trends and always willing to experiment. Mod Hair Cut Afro Cuts/Styles Although 2011 was the year that re-introduced the afro, we are still seeing it on the red carpet. The afro of the 70's  has been redifined into an afro that has lots of shape and movement. Very sexy! Solange Knowles Brandy Asymmetrical Hair Cuts:  These cuts are edgy and elegant.
